[Introduction] Welcome to The FOF!
Welcome to The FOF!
Hi, welcome to The Future of Fashion! My name is Nabiya Alexandra, and I am the owner of The FOF.
The FOF is an online hub for all things fashion sustainability development, providing a space for community and conversation.
About the Owner
I chose to pursue the fashion industry when I was 10 years old when I discovered my love for style and design as a form of expression. Fast forward 11 years later officially dedicated my time and research to fashion sustainability development in 2022 when I started college.
I then graduated in May of 2025 with a major in Social Impact & Entrepreneurship along with a minor in Fashion & Retail. I decided to combine my love for the two and search for solutions to the harm the fashion industry has been causing.
(Mellick, 2023)
What is Fashion Sustainability?
Fashion sustainability is not as fancy as the term may sound. It is in simple terms assisting in longevity surrounding the fashion industry. Diving into the term, we are looking at a movement intended to reduce the negative impact of the fashion industry on our environment and social living. In summary increasing the longevity of our planet and lives. This is about working together to support and build habits that reduce harm and expand on healthier lifestyles.
Why is this important?
The start of this movement is designed with the intent on discovering & solving the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry. Two of the major causes of these issues are overconsumption and overproduction. These two issues were assisted through the design of a a linear fashion life cycle and pushed the development of fast fashion. As consumer demand grows so does production and vise versa.
(Igini, 2023)
Linear fashion is the make, sell, and dispose model of the fashion industry, which is typically used by fast fashion models.
Fast fashion is a fashion production model referring to the rapid and mass production of fashion products for cheap costs.
Environmental impacts
Waste pollution
Water pollution
Air pollution
Plastic pollution
CO2 Emissions
Social Impacts
Unfair labor wages
Unsafe work conditions
Low regulations on labor
(Yorke, 2024)
What can we do?
It is dire that we work together to support the restoration of our planet and creating fairness for the lives of those directly impacted by the industry.
[Community Solutions] Linear vs Circular Fashion
Linear = Make - Take - Waste
Circular (restorative & regenerative) = Make - Sell - Rent - Use - Reuse - Resell - Repair - Recycle
With a circular fashion economy, we can reduce waste and pollution by slowing down the fashion cycle. We can enjoy fashion while using creativity, community building, and making a difference. This solution takes collaboration, initiatives, and patience.
[Personal Solutions] Stop & Think - Changing habits
“Do I need to buy this?” “What makes me buy?”
“Is there a way I can preserve, recycle, trade, or reuse an item?”
How is The FOF Helping? Promoting & Using Circular Habits!
We are building community surrounding the sustainable fashion movement with the intention of prioritizing circular lifecycles in the fashion industry. Our hub helps foster communication surrounding finding solutions, sharing knowledge, and prioritizing creativity over consumption.
Our mission is to create a hub where fashion enthusiasts can easily locate resources, information, and community surrounding fashion sustainability alternatives.
The overall vision is to collaboratively develop sustainability as the baseline for fashion culture through the focus of community, circularity, creativity, and open conversation.
